In middle school, a new girl moved to town from Pennsylvania and I made endless fun of her accent. My favorite words to hear her say were “pink” as “pank” and “water” as “wooder.” Even today, years later, I sometimes use her pronunciations for those words because they are more fun than my flat, Washington-state accent.
