It's a Cinch
Because living in NY means wearing multiple layers all winter long, I'm always looking for ways to add some variation to my looks. One of my favorite ways to change the appearance of outerwear is to simply add a belt on top. It creates a cinched-in shape that's slimming & it gives a whole new look to an oversized coat. I've done this quite a bit in the past (see examples here , here & here ) - if you haven't yet tried it for yourself, here are some styling tips to pulling it off: 1) Make sure the belt hits at your natural waist - it can throw off proportions if it sits too high. 2) Don't over-cinch it.
