I am not a fan of pictures with direct sunlight because you just lose so many details. Even on sunny days I prefer to shoot in the shadow, as it usually corresponds way better with the effect I want to achieve and it is also much easier for people who don't know how to work with light (and let's be honest, I can't do that either). But when in December you go out in only a sweater and ballerinas you kind of want to worship the star that made it all...
