Water Lily When I was eight years old, my family moved from northern California to a small town outside of Philadelphia. Although my memories have faded over the years, certain moments of that first summer are crystal clear: the smothering shock of East Coast humidity, the wonders of our basement (no such thing in California), and cardboard forts created from leftover moving boxes. In our new house, my mother created a truly beautiful bedroom for me. Knowing my love for Monet, she found wallpaper and fabric that were reminiscent of his water lily paintings.
