Detroit Lighthouse Depot During our trip last weekend, we checked out the Detroit Lighthouse Depot. Although this isn't technically a lighthouse, it's a major part of Michigan's lighthouse history. Supply depots like this one were built in the 12 lighthouse districts in the United States. They were built to store supplies like illuminating oils, fuels, buoys, lenses and other equipment needed to maintain lighthouses. It is currently being used by the U.S. Coast Guard, but is being transferred to the city of Detroit to become a museum.
