wandering in the winter light
In winter, I find that the days during which the sky is clear are often the coldest. Yet lately the sun comes out to warm the earth instead. The snow is melting, and the dirt roads are turning into muddy slush. The sun's warmth defies winter, the same way that a seagull defies a strong ocean's wind, or that a sprout defies the wet soil in spring as it reaches out to the world above the ground. I love wandering around on days like this, as the air, which smells of nature, fills my lungs and my hair assumes the scent of it.
