125 lat temu w belgijskiej miejscowości Spa odbył się pierwszy konkurs piękności. Różnił się jednak od dzisiejszego współzawodnictwa. Kandydatki do kolejnych etapów były wybierane na podstawie fotografii. Wówczas do rywalizacji o tytuł najpiękniejszej i nagrodę 5 tysięcy franków stanęło aż 350 kandydatek.
