My husband served in the US Army National Guard for 12 years and we were incredibly blessed during that time that he never was deployed for longer than a month. But, there are so many families who don't see their sons/daughters, husbands/wives, fathers/mothers for a year or longer because they are serving overseas. Especially during the holiday season when it's all about families coming together, I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for those who are celebrating without their loved ones.
