I'm sure I've told you this before, but I came to Paris for the first time when I was fifteen, at the beginning of a ten-day-long school trip to France. We were staying in an awful little hotel near Gare Saint-Lazare and, maybe because our lodgings were so uninspiring, we went out for a walk around the neighbourhood less than fifteen minutes after we arrived... basically as soon as we had stowed our luggage. It was during this walk that I first saw the big department stores in Paris, and I fell in love with Printemps instantly. The store has changed a lot since then, but the golden dome remains a model of the beauty for beauty's sake that is so wonderfully common...
