The problem that started off the lesson was about renting a car for $64 a day, at $0.25 per mile. The whole point of the lesson was to get students to write equations for these situations. This is a very standard problem and I introduced the question by saying something along the lines of 'when you grow up you may have to rent a car ...'. But right after I said that I felt incredibly guilty and sheepish, because I know for a fact that's its not even a possibility for at least one student...
