Teachers’ Day
Today (November 20th) is Teachers’ Day in Vietnam. You don’t get the day off (too bad), but usually students will bring flowers and gifts to their teachers, and former students will visit their former teachers as well (my class was supposed to visit our homeroom teacher on Sunday, but I didn’t find out until that night. Oh well.) Of course, as is the case with most of the other celebrations of this kind, it’s been reduced to an occasion for shops to sell you overpriced flowers and gifts. I could sit here and lament how commercialism is taking the meaning out of everything… or I could dwell on a more frivolous but also more lighthearted fact...
