There is something romantic, almost dream like about bicycling that simply isn't found when driving cars or motorcycles. The same dreamy romance is present in rowing a boat on a still pond that again is lost on a speed boat or jet ski. Perhaps it's the quiet concentration of the physical task combined with the ability to let the mind wander freely. The faster something goes, the more concentration required to stay alive while maneuvering it. It's also the lightness of it all. Have you ever tried to have a serious, soulful conversation with a friend while riding bikes? Can't be done. Nor should it be. A bicycle ride is for silent reverie...
