Hitchcock's Vertigo || Inspired by Madeleine Elster via Edith Head "Only one is a wanderer; two together are always going somewhere." Today's look is inspired by non other than Kim Novak, and her character's wardrobe by Edith Head in the 1958 film Vertigo. Legendary director Alfred Hitchcock specifically requested a neutral color palette to wash out her fair complexion & platinum hair, so as to further coincide with Madeleine's aloof and hauntingly removed character. While Madeleine seemingly believed that she was possessed by the deceased Carlotta, she was also playing the part of a privileged wife, so her costume was designed to reflect the nature of both wealth and phantom-like mystery.
