Loving Yourself In elementary school, I became acutely aware that my body was not like my peers. It wasn’t through my own eyes that I came to this realization, but it was through my peers. It was mostly boys my age that taunted me – for being too tall and too large. They called me names, they weren’t belligerent and never harassed me – but I received my fair share of names. “Big butt”, “tub of lard”, “fatty”, “ugly” etc. these are the words I grew up calling myself as a result. It created a vicious cycle that stretched long into my adulthood that increased my eating and drove me to obsession about my appearance. I...
